Thought and Experience: Themes in the Philosophy of Mind (AA308)

How can I prepare?

There are four books that you might like to read or browse by way of preparation:

Ian Ravenscroft, Philosophy of Mind: A Beginner’s Guide, Oxford University Press, 2005 [a good introduction to philosophy of mind]

Simon Blackburn, Think, Oxford University Press, 1999 [a good general introduction to philosophical thinking]

A.P. Martinich, Philosophical Writing, 3rd ed., Blackwell, Oxford, 2005 [provides excellent advice on how to write essays in philosophy]

Robert Wilkinson, Minds and Bodies, Open University, 1999 (one of the books of the A211 course); Routledge, 2000 (revised edition for Routledge) [a good preparatory step towards AA308]

The philosophy residential school course AXR271 Doing philosophy offers a strand on ‘Mind and Action’ which would be excellent preparation for this course.
