Students who have studied AA308 regard it as a challenging but rewarding course. The course materials raise some complex and, at times, technical issues in philosophy. The course authors assume that you are already experienced in reading philosophical texts and discussing philosophical issues. You are strongly advised not to take it unless you have already completed A211 Philosophy and the Human Situation, A222 Exploring Philosophy or an equivalent course in philosophy from another university or college.
Below are two exercises designed to help you to decide whether you are ready to take this course.
Read the statements below and decide whether you agree, disagree or are unsure.
If you disagree or are unsure about one or more of the statements above, we strongly recommend that you contact our Student Registration and Enquiry Service to ask for advice.
This exercise involves reading and analysing an extract from the course materials. If you have difficulty completing this exercise, we recommend, again, that you contact our Student Registration and Enquiry Service to ask for advice.
