What is included in the cost of registration?
Your three course books, other printed materials, DVDs, access to the course website, and access to online forums are included in the cost of registration. Please note that although the three course books are available for sale commercially and co-published by Manchester University Press, you do not need to buy them if you enrol in this course, as we will send them to you as part of your course pack.
You will have a tutor who will help you with the course material and mark and comment on your written work, and whom you can ask for advice and guidance. While much of your tutor's time will be spent providing you with online support, we may also be able to offer group tutorials or day schools that you are encouraged, but not obliged, to attend. Where your tutorials are held will depend on the distribution of students taking the course.
What else will I need?
You will need internet access and a computer as described in our Personal Computing for OU Study section.
An integral part of the course is a specially designed online study guide, and some of your assignments will require you to use the internet. If you choose to take the course and you do not have regular access to the internet, you will find that your experience of the course is diminished.
You may choose to view the course audio-visual materials on your television instead of your computer, in which case you will need a DVD player and television. In addition to the hard copies of course materials which we will send to you, the option is provided on the course website to access and view all course materials (including video, audio and course books) online.
In addition to the materials we send you, you will need to purchase two set books. You should make sure that you have purchased these books before the course starts, as you will be using them from the first week that the course begins.
