Members of the department research a wide range of topics, a particular strength is the impact of classical studies on the contemporary world through material culture, textual culture, visual culture and digital humanities. The Department conducts research in an excellent, ambitious and supportive environment maintaining strong links between research and the curriculum. The Department has a strong record in producing high-quality research, reflected in the submission of all its members in RAE 2008.
