In this paper I will examine some aspects of the relations between metalwork and the earliest bucchero in Cerveteri, the production of which had started about 675 BC. The elements discussed are 1) the fan, the fanlike rotating ornament on which my (internal) chronology for bucchero is based, 2) the disk as starting point for the fashioning, contrasting with potters start with a ball of clay and 3) imitation punchwork (both repoussé and countersunk), the use of globules (filigrain), tiny, interwoven wires (filigree), collar rings, rivets, and wire-dowels, elements strongly reminiscent of metalwork.
