Research seminar series

The group holds an annual research seminar series at the Institute of English Studies, University of London, to which both part- and full-time research students are invited to contribute. The current 2012 seminar series is titled 'Documents of Shakespearean Performance: Stage, Page, and Manuscript in Early Modern England' and details can be found here. In 2011, the seminar series was on the theme of ‘Reading and the First World War’. You can find further details on the RED blog. Previous seminar series have explored the history of reading (2010), transatlantic publishing (2008-2009), publishing science (2007-2008), publishing periodicals (2006-7), readers and reading (2005-6), and publishing in the First World War (2004-5). Several papers presented at the 2004-5 series have been included in a published volume edited by Mary Hammond and Shafquat Towheed, Publishing in the First World War: Essays in Book History (Basingstoke: Palgrave Macmillan, 2007). The seminar series present work in progress by leading scholars in the field, as well as supporting the research of members of the Book History Research Group, especially early career researchers. Speakers wishing to offer papers for the 2012 seminar series are invited to contact the convenor, Shafquat Towheed.
