Dr Hannah Lavery

Lecturer

I have been associated with the Open University since 2005 as an Associate Lecturer, before starting as Staff Tutor in 2008. I did my undergraduate degree at The University of Wales, Cardiff, before returning to my hometown of Sheffield to undertake postgraduate study. I received a distinction for my MA English Literature and took up a funded place for a PhD looking at Early Modern erotic poetry, which I completed in 2008. Whilst working towards my PhD I also taught at three institutions (University of Sheffield, the OU, and Chesterfield College), and completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education at Sheffield. This allowed me to develop my research interest in online education, as sparked by my work at the OU. Since coming to the OU as staff tutor I have been developing my interest in Widening Participation.

Research

16c and 17c English and European literatures. Poetry (ancient to modern). Early modern erotic literature. Manuscripts and archives. Online pedagogies/ blended learning. Widening Participation.
