Whereas by an Act pafsed in the last Sefsion of Parliament entitled “an Act for improving the Police in and near the Metropolis” it is amongst other things enacted That it shall be lawful for us to cause a new Police Office to be established in the City of Westminster, and by Warrant under our Sign Manual [Autograph signature of the monarch expressing his or her pleasure by commission, order or warrant. Counties of Middlesex, Surrey, Hertford, Efsex, and Kent, and of all Liberties therein, to execute the Duties of a Justice of the Peace at the said Office and in all Parts of those several Counties, and the Liberties therein, together with such other Duties as shall be herein after specified, or as shall be from Time to Time directed by one of Our Principal Secretaries of State for the more efficient Administration of the Police within the Limits herein after mentioned; Know ye that we having great confidence in your knowledge and ability do in pursuance of the said Act and by virtue of the same hereby constitute and appoint you the said Richard Mayne to be a Justice of the Peace of the Counties of Middlesex, Surrey, Hertford, Efsex, and Kent, and of all Liberties therein

with Power to execute the Duties of a Justice of the Peace at the said Office and of all Parts of those several Counties and the Liberties therein with such other Duties as shall be specified in the said recited Act or as shall be from time to time directed by one of our Principal Secretaries of State for the more efficient Administration of the Police within the Limits therein mentioned.
