The History Department offers the chance to study at every level from foundation to postgraduate, and their courses range in scope from broad survey to more specialist topics. Over recent years, new courses have refreshed our curriculum. Drawing on the research of staff, our courses are designed to be engaging and challenging. Their content reflects up-to-date interpretations by scholars, and they introduce students to the skills of historical study.
Our courses make use of the rich archive of visual material, delivered through DVD video and interactive media.

We offer two courses in collaboration with Dundee University. These can be taken as 3rd level modules and can count towards a degree. They are offered by distance teaching: you do not have to be resident in Scotland to complete these courses. Students receive five course books, which include essays and readings. All students are assigned to a tutor to support their studies and mark their assignments. There are no tutorials, but there are two optional day schools, which are held in Dundee.
