I was awarded a PhD at Royal Holloway University of London in 2002 and joined the Open University History Department as a lecturer in June 2009. I was an Associate Lecturer in the OU London Region for seven years from 2002 and I also taught at Royal Holloway University of London for five years. At present I work part-time on a 0.6 contract.

My main research interests include British eighteenth-century and early nineteenth century history political ideas and cultural history. I have undertaken research on the English response to the French Revolution, radicalism and loyalism; Politicisation and identity and radical ‘citizens of the world’ within the empire; Linguistic usage and digital history; Popular attitudes to monarchy within the Hanoverian era; Social and cultural networks of connection in the Georgian period.
Member of the History Department’s British and Irish Research Group: Locality, ideology and economy.
