Quiz Types

You can create 2 types of quiz, "recognition" quizzes and "formation" quizzes. Recognition quizzes test your ability to spot a particular form. Formation quizzes ask you to convert a word from one form into another. You can create either type of quiz for nouns, verbs or adjectives.

What if I need help?

If you get stuck, use the "hint" button to reveal an "information" button next to each Latin word. Place the cursor over the information button to bring up the word's dictionary entry.

After your first attempt at answering a quiz an "answer" button appears. You can use this to reveal the correct answers, or you can continue to refine your own answer until the quiz is complete.

Preferences

Use the preferences options to customise quizzes to suit your abilities. You can restrict noun quizzes by noun type and case, verb quizzes by verb type and tense, and adjectives by adjective type and case.

You can also decide whether to include or exclude the passive voice, the subjunctive mood and deponent and semi-deponent verbs from your verb quizzes.

Privacy

The site creates a small file (a bit like a browser "cookie") on your hard drive called "OULatin.sol". The purpose of the file is to store your quiz preferences.

You can prevent Flash from creating cookies by right-clicking on the quiz, choosing the "settings" option and setting the size of "local storage" to zero. The Flash website has more information on Flash settings.

If you choose not to set Flash cookies, the site will not remember your preferences and you will have to reenter them for each new session.
