Material Cultures Research Group

Material Culture is a central concern across a range of disciplines in the Arts and Humanities. The aim of the Material Cultures Research Group is to promote research into the study of material cultures at the Open University, and to facilitate collaborations amongst staff who undertake research on this theme. The group shares interests in a range of topics, including

  • objects and agency,
  • material culture and belief,
  • virtual objects and digital technologies,
  • object biographies and the afterlives of objects,
  • personhood and objecthood,
  • authenticity,
  • methodologies for working with objects, and
  • memorialisation.
