'Unfortunately, I introduced the subject of Men must Weep by Beverley Nichols. I always forget Mabel is an unrepentant Pacifist. Even now she will not admit that their Propaganda has largely led us into this mess. He writes of the idea launched some years ago that a body of non-belligerents should march between the battling armies and stop them. He says how ludicrous it all sounds now.'

Hodgson does not actually state that she is currently reading the book, but since it had recently been published and she had obviously read it, I take that to be the implication.
