Gerald Parsons

Visiting Research Associate

Gerald Parsons studied History and Theology at the University of Wales, Lampeter, and at Cambridge University. From 1981 to 2011 he was, successively, Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Religious Studies at the Open University. He chaired courses on Religion in Victorian Britain and Religion in Britain since 1945, and contributed to courses on Religion in the Modern World, Religion in History, and to the department's taught MA. After taking early retirment, he remains a Visiting Research Associate of the department. His research now focuses on two areas: the life and theology of Bishop John William Colenso (1814-1883), and the civil religion and religious history of Siena.
