The Romantic Period Research Group is a young formation, having been active for just under two years. Members of the group publish in the field of late eighteenth century and romantic period culture. Particular interests include travel-writing and literary tourism; romantic women writers; slavery and slave-narratives; the romantic book; romanticism and material culture; Godwin and his circle; the radical 1790s thinker Henry Redhead Yorke; popular attitudes to the monarchy; late eighteenth-century portraiture; sentimentalism; Delacroix; Tobias Smollett; Scottish Enlightenment writing; the relationship of philosophy and literature.
