The labs can be used for
- Usability and Accessibility testing of OU online media
- Developmental testing of online course materials
- Research field work data capture (mobile Lab)
- Ambient technology research scenario mock up (e.g. Library, museum, dance floor, home)
- Focus group research data capture
- Research prototype device testing (e.g. interactive surface devices)
- Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) observations
- Podcast recording (individual)
- Eye tracking services
We can provide the following services
- Evaluation support services
- Technical and support services for use of the labs
- Self service (for experienced lab users)
In addition, the Ambient Lab is also occasionally used for IET Technology coffee mornings and educational technology seminars.

The labs should not be used for
- Meetings - the labs are not meeting rooms, and should not be booked for this purpose. Any one of the labs can be set up for observing and recording meeting scenarios.
- Recording Course production material, such as videos and audio material for OU courses. The OU has facilities for this purpose in Learning & Teaching Solutions Sound and Vision.
- Studio space or broadcast recording (except for the podcasting/vodcasting room which is not suitable for film crews)
