Eligibility to work in the UK and UK/RoI residency

Eligibility to work in the UK

There are legal restrictions on who may undertake employment in the United Kingdom. If you do not already hold a Right To Work in the UK then you will normally need to be sponsored by a UK employer and granted permission to stay in the UK by the UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI), in order to undertake employment with the sponsoring employer. Whilst we welcome applications regardless of nationality, you will need to ensure that the Visa pathway you intend to use is suitable for your circumstances and, in the case of sponsorship, the role itself is one that will grant you the necessary points and eligibility.

UK Immigrations rules can here found here: Immigration Rules - Guidance - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

More information specifically relating to the Skilled Worker visa can be found here: Immigration Rules Appendix Skilled Worker - Immigration Rules - Guidance - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

Skilled Occupations List can be found here: Immigration Rules Appendix Skilled Occupations - Immigration Rules - Guidance - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

Please note that we are unable to provide individual immigration advice and would encourage you to seek independent advice on immigration if you are unsure on how to proceed.

Proof of UK/RoI residency

The Open University is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all backgrounds and nationalities.  As the work for the University will be carried out in the UK or the Republic of Ireland there is a requirement for members of staff to be resident in either the UK or the Republic of Ireland (depending on the requirements of the role).  Members of staff are also expected to live within a reasonable travelling distance of their place of work.  Applications from overseas candidates are therefore permitted provided the candidate intends to move to the UK/RoI to take up the position.  Any offer of employment will be made subject to proof of UK/RoI residency.  If you are applying from outside the UK/RoI please state your intentions on the application form, otherwise it may not be considered.

Please note that you will also need to ensure that you read the information in the links above.
