The role

The Open University is recruiting a part time Nursing Staff Tutor in Northern Ireland. The postholder will be a qualified, registered nurse familiar with the context of health, nursing and social care Northern Ireland Practice and Education Council (NIPEC). You will be expected to contribute to the effective management of the Pre-registration Nursing programme in Northern Ireland, working both strategically with sponsoring agencies, employers and NIPEC/NI Government as well as operationally supporting the recruitment and management of associate lecturers and programme tutors. As a full member of academic staff in the Faculty, you will also be expected to contribute to the broader presentation of modules and awards.

Skills and experience

  • A first degree (upper second or higher) or a Post-graduate qualification in a subject area of relevance to nursing, health and/or social care
  • A professional qualification in Nursing and experience in supporting practice learning
  • Current NMC registration and an NMC recordable teaching qualification 
  • An understanding of current issues in health, nursing and social care practice and education in Northern Ireland
  • A sound understanding of the needs of adult learners
  • The ability to promote the Faculty's modules, programmes and awards to individuals and corporate customers
  • The skills (i.e. communication, negotiation, administrative and assertiveness) required to develop and maintain local partnerships
  • Good interpersonal, communication (writing reports, emails, auditing documents and presentations), team working and organisational skills
