Change your career, change lives

The Open University is the UK’s largest university, a world leader in flexible part-time education combining a mission to widen access to higher education with research excellence, transforming lives through education.

The role

You will be welcomed into an interdisciplinary research group investigating the feasibility of life beyond the Earth, and the associated social, legal and economic implications. Your role within the group will be to explore the organic geochemistry of a range of potentially habitable Solar System environments, including icy moons and Mars. You will establish analytical capabilities to detect biosignatures that can demonstrate, or negate, the presence of extraterrestrial life. The application of these techniques to planetary protection problems will be explored.

Skills and experience

You will have a PhD (or shortly to be obtained)  in organic geochemistry, environmental or petroleum geochemistry or a related discipline.

You will also have experience of analysis and extraction techniques appropriate to resolving organic geochemical problems.

See the attached Job Description (here) for further details and desirable qualities.

Benefits include a supportive and friendly working environment, 33 days holiday per annum pro rata plus Bank Holidays and Christmas closure days, and an attractive pension proposition.
