Why support the OU

Support the OU: images of students and technology

Right from the start, The Open University has been committed to making higher education accessible to all. So far, an amazing two million people have benefitted from a first-class university education – regardless of their background or qualifications.

“You cannot give people anything better in their lives than an education, because it frees them from poverty – poverty financially, and poverty of knowledge.
And once you give people knowledge, you empower them” - Patricia Campell OU Alumna

Today we have just over 264,000 students, including 18,000 overseas and 13,500 with disabilities that might have presented a barrier to studying at a traditional university. What you may not know is that over 61,000 of our students receive some kind of financial assistance with their studies - 32% of our student base.

Support from our alumni, organisations and other friends is crucial to helping us to give those students the support they deserve, and to create better worlds for themselves and their families.

By making a gift to the OU, you can enable change.

We will use your money to provide financial support to our students, to improve learning resources and access for disabled students or to develop projects that reach out further across the world, such as our TESSA and HEAT programmes, providing teacher and healthcare training in some of the poorest countries in the world.
