Status: Current

The TESS-India (Teacher Education through School-based Support in India) project is working alongside the Indian Government to help India reach its target of free, compulsory and quality education for all children by 2017. The project is funded by UKaid from the Department for International Development
The challenge is very real – it is estimated that a further 1.33 million teachers are required and the quality of existing teaching also needs dramatic improvement. TESS-India will help meet these needs, reducing pressure on teacher education institutions and enabling them to deliver quality teacher training at scale and speed, to both teachers in training and teachers in the classroom.
TESS-India is based on the success of its sister project, TESSA. The project will see the creation of the first and biggest network of freely available, high quality, distance learning teacher education resources in India, co-written by UK and Indian academic experts. These materials will be available in multiple formats – both printed and online – and will be used in primary and secondary schools across the country, rolled out in partnership with Indian States and the TESS-India partner education institutions.
The project in its current phase will run to May 2015. If you’d like to find out more, please get in touch.
