Expanding scholarship within the STEM faculties

Posted 14th October 2014

We are pleased to announce the following five new projects to the eSTEeM portfolio:

Enabling access to the chemistry curriculum for visually impaired students

Evaluation of The OpenScience Lab’s 3D Virtual Skiddaw application

Gender Differences in completion and credit obtained in Level 2 study in Physical Sciences

Survey of Mathematics and Statistics Associate Lecturers for Athena SWAN silver status award

Using OpenStudio in STEM learning

Our sixth project call in June 2014 also invited expressions of interest from OU colleagues to form part of a project team researching in one of the following strategically important areas for the Science and MCT faculties:

  • Online/onscreen teaching and learning
  • Evaluation of the effectiveness of The OpenScience Laboratory
  • Student perception of support team interventions
  • Group tutorials for teaching and learning

These group projects are currently being refined and work by the teams will commence soon.

eSTEeM Co-Director Clem Herman commented “I am delighted that eSTEeM is continuing to expand our portfolio of projects, engaging even more of our MCT and Science academics in scholarship and research. With this new round of projects we have focussed closely on strategic priorities that faculties are facing in teaching and learning and we look forward to being able to contribute to a deeper understanding of some of these complex issues.”
