Qualification Study websites: uptake and practice

Qualification study websites have now been in use for over a year. However, it would seem that despite the effort that has gone into their creation and the conception of these sites as a hub of the qualification learning community the use of these sites by students is poor. The Q61 site for example has had few posts on the forums and there is little evidence of students engaging with the news items or using the other pages of the site despite the qualification team’s intention that this space could be used as a valuable repository and touchpoint for students on their qualification journey.

To address this issue this project proposes to carry out an evaluation of a selection of qualification study websites in the STEM area to determine whether or not these sites are working for the student communities that they serve. A better understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the study website platform will, it is hoped, lead to the identification of good practice and areas for change and improvement, helping to shape future use of these spaces and strengthening the potential for the development of learning communities based around qualifications.
