Welcome to Women @OU. We are an all-inclusive group that works to promote gender equality and raise the profile of women at The Open University, championed by Professor Josie Fraser – Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the OU.
Membership is open to all OU staff and we look forward to welcoming as many people as possible to our events. We aim to provide opportunities throughout the year where staff can come together, listen to inspirational guest speakers, and share ideas and challenges. We hope you will join us.
Lisa Harris, Women @OU Chair
Yesterday (8 March) was International Women's Day, or IWD. This year, the campaign theme was #EachForEqual, because an equal world is an enabled one.
#EachforEqual is also about 'Collective Individualism', which means we are all parts of a whole. Our individual actions, conversations, behaviours and mindsets can have an impact on our larger society. Collectively, we can make change happen. Collectively, we can each help to create a gender equal world.
To celebrate IWD this year, the Women@OU Network held an event in the Hub Theare for all staff, with inspiring speakers, refreshments and mingling.
Tracy Lawson, Head of Student Fees, shared her inspirational OU journey. Ffion Harris, a 12 year-old school student missed her maths lesson to speak about the pressures of being a young girl and her hopes for the future. And finally, our Women@OU Chair, Lisa Harris, spoke about the "virtuous circle of the penguin huddle".
