The DSA assessment is a face-to-face meeting with a trained assessor to enable them to identify the student’s needs and agree on a suitable way forward.
The DSA assessment, which usually lasts for between 1.5-2 hours, is carried out by qualified, helpful, friendly staff either at the OU Access Centre, the student’s home, or in the OU Access Bus.
The session is an ideal opportunity to consider the course the student is looking to undertake, taking into account their disability, and explore what study aids the student may need to help them achieve their goal.
Following the DSA assessment, a report will be produced which the student will be asked to comment on.
We aim to send the final version within three weeks to the student’s DSA awarding body, to enable them to make recommendations.
All needs assessments are carried out under the strictest confidence and the report is only sent out to the awarding bodies. It will not be sent to the student’s university unless the student gives permission. Confidentiality is one of our highest priorities.
Following the DSA assessment, we also offer training to help the student learn how to use any new equipment. Advice for students on preparing for the DSA assessment is also provided.
