Preparing for the DSA assessment

The session is an ideal opportunity to explore what you need to have in place to study successfully.

To help ensure the DSA assessment runs as smoothly as possible, you may want to prepare the following.

  • Find out about your course – Do you know what activities will be involved? Will you be expected to take part in lectures or carry out tasks in different places? Is the workload likely to change? Can you use email or online resources?
  • Consider previous strategies – Were they useful? Could they be used again? Did you have help from those close to you?
  • Things to bring with you – Any relevant medical information, examples of written work such as lecture notes or exam scripts.

The session is an ideal opportunity to explore what needs to be in place to help you succeed. The DSA assessment will take about 1.5 - 3 hours to a full day, depending on disability and need. You will be sent a copy of the report and asked to comment. The final version is sent to your DSA awarding body (usually LGA) for them to make decisions. The report is confidential.

The whole process usually takes about three to four weeks.

Following this, if you need training for any equipment the OU Access Centre can provide that for you.
