Action in French (LXR122)
Course Timetable
- Saturday
-
You should aim to arrive between 14.00 and 18.00 for registration on Saturday afternoon. After dinner there is a plenary session which gives you the opportunity to meet your Course Director and the tutors who will be working with you during the week and to have welcoming 'pot d'accueil'!
- Sunday
-
The main programme begins on Sunday morning with a 'carousel' of activities designed to help you feel relaxed in speaking the language. All students will meet all the LXR122 tutors and visit all the facilities, and work on their pronunciation and intonation through a series of online activities, CD-ROMs and games. Some will have a specifically gastronomic flavour as preparation for the evening when we enjoy a 'repas normand' presented by the 'chefs cuisiniers' of the University, followed by a small concert in the evening.
- Monday - Thursday
-
Monday to Thursday mornings are dedicated to helping you improve your spoken French. These sessions are built round a particular theme to develop skills which will help you with the afternoon activities. The broad themes are:
- La Vie Quotidienne
- Ecologie, Habitat, Voisinage
- Histoire (Normandie, Bayeux/Caen)
- Bayeux (which includes a visit to this historic town
The afternoon activities will have been prepared with your tutors in the morning. You will have the opportunity to explore Caen and the region, and to do some independent study. Some afternoons we offer grammar classes and small group conversation sessions with the French language assistants. Sessions in the 'salle de documentation' allow for feedback and often dedicated language support. There, you will also find tape-recorders and microphones, dictionaries etc. There will also be time in the evenings for students to attend films or talks available to other groups.
On Thursday morning you will complete your oral assessment.
- Friday
-
On Friday morning you will complete your essay plans. There is an opportunity for final questions and fun activities and the course will finish by lunchtime.
This outline programme may be subject to small changes where required by differing circumstances, but broadly will be maintained.
