Digital Campus

For the last year the OU HEAT team has been working with Digital Campus to develop mobile enabled versions of the HEAT learning resources. The mobile versions do not replicate all of the modules, but instead supplement them with additional video and assessment exercise and quizzes. This enables health workers to access types of activities that would otherwise be difficult to deliver through other means. HEAT tutors, trainers and supervisors can, more effectively, monitor and track the progress of the health workers and their application of skills and knowledge both during and, crucially, following the training programme. We are currently in the process of rolling out HEAT mobile to two of the current HEAT training centres in Ethiopia.

The HEAT mobile modules use the ‘OppiaMobile’ platform, which is specifically designed to support offline content, video and quizzes on Android smartphones. OppiaMobile is generating a lot of interest for supporting continuous professional development, education and training, especially in low resource settings with poor internet infrastructure.
