Our work

So, what is HEAT?

HEAT is a comprehensive education and training programme for community health workers that has been written in collaboration with African health experts, and that launched in Ethiopia in 2011.

It is a mixture of theoretical training (containing 13 modules that cover subjects such as antenatal, labour and delivery and postnatal care, newborn and childhood illnesses, and communicable diseases) and practical training (delivered by our programme partners).

The theoretical training materials are available both online and offline in printed materials, making HEAT accessible to all, no matter where they live. And the practical training is delivered near to where health workers live, meaning that they can carry on working in their local communities while they study.

We believe that this approach makes HEAT radically different to existing healthcare training programmes.
