George Pavlides

Dr George Pavlides is an Assistant Professor in The Department of Communications at the University of Nicosia, Cyprus. He obtained an M.A. in Journalism from Lomonosov, Moscow State University (1990)and  Ph.D. on Media Ethics from Kliment Ochridski, Sofia State University, Bulgaria (2008).

George has extensive professional experience of work in various Cypriot media. For the last 20 years he worked at ASTRA Radio. He held posts as political editor, editor in chief and from 2006 to 2014 he was the General Manager of the station.

More recently he has collaborated with Kanali 6 producing two weekly radio shows.

He is the author of Της προσμονής και της απόγνωσης (On anticipation and despair) (Nicosia: Armida Publications, 2013) Journalistic Mission: Between ethics and imposition (Nicosia: IMME, 2009) and To allo miso (The other half) (Nicosia, Astra, 2008).  His research interests primarily focus on media ethics, history of press, radio production and Cyprus problem.

George Pavlides also holds various positions in media organizations.  He is the Director of the Institute of Mass Media, University of Nicosia, Vice President of Cyprus Media Complaints Commission, a member of International Federation of Journalists, and the Union of Journalists, Cyprus.
