The seminar will run from 10.00 a.m. on Friday June 22nd to 5.15 p.m. on Saturday June 23rd. It will take place at the Knowledge Media Institute (KMi) at The Open University (OU), with virtual links to researchers in North America, Asia and Australasia. Members of CALICO (the Computer Assisted Language Instruction Consortium) and JALT-CALL (Computer assisted language learning section of the Japan Association for Language Teaching) will be participating at distance. The entire proceedings will be webcast from the OU, offering the possibility for an unrestricted audience to ‘lurk'. Active participation at a distance will be possible through live-chat on Hexagon (http://cnm.open.ac.uk/projects/hexagon/) and by emailing questions and observations for discussion. Two of the invited speakers will participate by live video link; the third will be physically present. The novel combination of online and face-to-face elements in the seminar will allow us to bring together researchers working in the area and to reflect the nature of the learning events that are the subject of the seminar.
