Research Career Development Support

The Open University Research School offers a comprehensive programme of research career development training events aimed at supporting the development of our research community.

The Research Career Development team within the Research School oversee the development and presentation of a calendar of research training events.  These opportunities are intended as generic skills training: the expectation is that Faculties and Research Centres arrange and organise discipline-specific training.  Find out more at the Research Career Development website.

Highlights of the calendar of events include:

Bidding for Funding: a suite of training events ranging from those targeted at beginners (Bidding for Funding Basics, Opportunities for Students) to the more experienced researchers seeking to move into the European and collaborative bids.

Research Career Mentoring: The Research Career Development team hold periodic events to enable researchers, particularly (but not exclusively) career-young, to meet suitable mentors.

PGR Supervisor Training: Training in Research Student supervision is offered at two levels, for new supervisors and for more experienced supervisors.

Student Training: Students registered in BRN are registered on the postgraduate module STM895 Postgraduate research skills in science, technology, mathematics and computing. This is an online module that allows students to identify and tailor their training requirements. The module material covers a variety of generic research skills and allows students to maintain an online portfolio of evidence of these generic skills acquired during the course of their research.
