Spela Godeck (UCL) The Equity Compass: Co-production of tools for equitable practice

Abstract:

Spela will share key insights, learnings and resources from the Youth Equity and STEM project (YESTEM), a five-year international research-practice partnership aimed at better understanding and supporting equitable practice.

YESTEM is a collaboration between academic research teams and informal STEM learning organisations, working together through the duration of the project, from designing research (survey and ethnographic study), testing equitable practices (using a design-based implementation approach) to producing resources for the sector.

Spela will dive deeper into one of the key project outputs, the Equity Compass, a framework for critical reflective practice. She will discuss how this framework has been used within the project, within the wider informal STEM learning sector, as well as audiences beyond the project scope, including funders, policy and teachers/school leaders working toward more equitable practice.
