I think you've hit the nail on the head, Pete, we need some creative thinkers and organisers, and a comprehensively fair tax system to back them up... I'm not holding my breath for it right now though!

We can't go on like this but I don't really hear much about how we're going to change things.
Inevitably the Cameron crew will revert to type and make everything wonderful for those who can afford it but as for the rest...the old, poorly eductaed, those with medical issues, what will they want to do for them?
They'll simply call them scroungers while all the time they'll allow tax dodgers into parliament and praise the bankers for makingmoney at our expence.
A real and fair tax system is what we need now to fund our futures along with creative thinkers and organisers to improve our services.

Thanks for this Sara. Is the question partly about 'what does it take to change behaviour?' As an immigrant myself, I've asked people why cars don't have chains or winter tyres or drivers take lessons on driving in snow. the reply has typically been 'because this doesn't happen enough to warrant it'. I reckon that the nation isn't at the tipping point yet.

The nation's health is another matter altogether. We have had lots of warnings that we are on a trajectory where services won't be able to meet need (actually, we are often told that they are failing) but unlike snow, for many people, poor health is sometime off in the future - not even happened yet. I wonder what would create the crucial tipping point?
