A different era

Course team meetingWhen discussing the history of The Open University and the impact it has made on the world of higher education more widely, one of the aspects most often mentioned is the impact of the course team. This collective approach to course production stood in contrast to the individually prepared lectures offered in conventional institutions.

This clip from an Open Forum TV programme shown in 1976 describes this process, however the most striking example in this footage of how times have changed is not the description of how the courses were made but the amount of smoking that went on in meetings!
