November top downloads are here ORO-Downloads-Nov-2012

A massive 149 downloads for our current top paper kept off a new entry from IET, which in any normal month would have hit the top spot with an impressive 56 downloads.

Thanks for using ORO.

October top downloads

Posted on November 16th, 2012 at 9:58 am by ctb44

Late this month due to ongoing work on the verification of items deposited in the REF cycle.

October downloads are now available ORO-downloads-Oct-2012.  It’s a remarkably consistent Top 15.

Just to contrast those figures with some repository level metrics.  Over the same period we had 46,349 visitors, 99,626 page views and 9,723 downloads of papers.  They are great figures!

Open Access Week Roundup

Posted on October 30th, 2012 at 4:53 pm by Nicola Dowson

Last week for the first time the OU Library Services in conjunction with the PVC (Research, Scholarship and Quality) Office ran five lunchtime events from the 22nd to the 26th October for Open Access Week.  There were  17 speakers  over the week ranging from academics. librarians, publishers and open access advocates and the events were attended by over 90 people from across the Open University.  Discussion during the week ranged from will article procesing charges be higher in the arts and humanities than the sciences, the Research Council UK policy on open access, how Open University Open Access journals are managed, experiences of publishing in open access journals, how publishers are moving forward with open access, the challenges and opportunities open access is presenting Higher Education Institutions with.  We would like to thank all those speakers and participants for making the week so interesting in engaging  and are looking forward to seeing how open access publishing evolves over the next few years.

July top downloads

Posted on August 1st, 2012 at 10:50 am by ctb44

Here are thetop downloads for July: ORO-downloads-July-2012.

The highest new entry this month is a journal article that has yet to be formally published.  One advantage of Green Open Access is that it allows new research to be more quickly disseminated, and this clearly is an example of this.

Thanks again for everyone using ORO.

June Downloads

Posted on July 2nd, 2012 at 10:41 am by ctb44

I’ve just run the ORO-downloads-June-2012 and the most downloaded paper clocked 38 downloads which is the most we’ve had for a long time and the most I’ve ever recorded since starting 12 months ago.

I drilled down a bit and found that 19 of the downloads were from The OU.  4 were from New Delhi; 2 from Melbourne, Huntingdon and Singapore and 1 download each from Zurich, Manchester, Dowlais, Patna, Pune, Manila, Chiang Mai, Dar Es Salaam, Ft. Bragg and New York.

That’s a pretty good global spread!  And is a timely (post Finch) reminder at what a great platform ORO is for making OU research openly accessible.
