Open University student, Rachel Walker has topped the social enterprise category of the Scottish Institute for Enterprise’s New Ideas Competition.
The 22 year old from Aberdeen inspired judges with her proposed project, ARTiculate, which aims to use the creative arts to build the confidence and self-esteem of children and teenagers through workshops and performances in schools.
Rachel, who is working towards a BA in English Literature, received her award at the Scottish Institute for Enterprise (SIE) Student Enterprise Summit in Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow on Thursday, March 22.
Rachel said: “The flexibility of the OU means I can bring my main job and passion, acting, to others.”
Every year the SIE runs a New Ideas and a New Ventures Competition, both of which are open to all students in Scotland.
All entrants go through a local internal competition held in their own university before progressing to the national heats run.
The Open University in Scotland undertook its judging in January and Rachel was one of three students that were put forward.
The Scottish Institute for Enterprise is a national organisation for promoting and supporting enterprise in Scotland’s universities.
