Internal update: Advance sight of Mobile VLE
For OU folks this time, duplicating a message sent via the mail list:
Dear all, a few bugs have been identified and are being updated to the VLE ‘staging’ servers this week, so if you would like a preview of what will be available in the March release you can follow these instructions to force a mobile view on a desktop browser or ideally on a mobile device:
Access a live course that you’re familiar with e.g.
[A182] http://learn.open.ac.uk/course/view.php?id=4846
and edit the URL so that it includes ‘learnacct’ rather than ‘learn’ e.g.
http://learnacct.open.ac.uk/course/view.php?id=4846
If you’re accessing on a mobile device, the mobile view should be presented to you. You can however force this by adding ‘&mobile=1′ onto the end of the URL e.g.
http://learnacct.open.ac.uk/course/view.php?id=4846&mobile=1The Mobile VLE was designed to work on WebKit browsers such as those on Apple iPhone/iPod Touch, Google Android, Palm Pre but also on Opera Mini (which can be installed on many phones), with some limited success on BlackBerry devices. Please feel free to try out on other browsers e.g. NetFront on some Nokias and Sony Ericssons; Pocket IE on Windows Mobile and feed back your experience.
Please note that the staging system won’t be as up to date as the live servers, since the copy was taken at the start of the year. More information on the implementation is available from the Overview poster and Multi-device poster created for this year’s Learn About fair.
If you have any queries, please use the LIO-Projects mailbox rather than my personal email. Feedback towards the end of this week will be most welcome!
