Beta release of Mobile VLE: ‘launchpad’
Once the upgrade of the VLE is complete today, mobile users should notice some changes to course websites, particularly if these are accessed from StudentHome mobile, where the following notice will be posted:

Beta version of mobile course website releasedAs of the 16th March 2010, the mobile view of course websites (anything on the learn.open.ac.uk domain) is changing to become more mobile-friendly. In response to student feedback from a survey last summer, we are enabling quicker visibility of current activities and enabling you to keep up to date more easily. The mobile optimisation process will come in stages - initially a ‘launchpad’ view of the course website, albeit with many links leading to ‘standard’ or ‘desktop’ views as before. However, over the following year, improvements will also follow in viewing content, keeping up to date with latest forum posts and then other collaborative activities as appropriate.Your device should automatically be detected and show a mobile view, but you can break out at any point to a ‘standard view’ if your mobile browser displays this well enough. At this stage, to re-enable mobile access you may have to add &mobile=1 on to the end of the web page address.
Thanks go to the development team for getting us to this point, particularly including: Colin Chambers, Bryan Waddington and Sam Marshall, with design work from Peter Devine.
