On Saturday 5th November a group of A224 Inside Music students attended a study day organised by the OU Music Department in association with the Halle Orchestra at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester. In the morning, students studied Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 ‘Eroica’ and John Adam’s Harmonium in sessions led by Catherine Tackley and Fiona Richards. After lunch, there was a discussion about what to expect before the group went into the hall to observe Sir Mark Elder rehearsing the Halle Orchestra and Choir. Several students also attended the evening concert. The Department hopes to organise similar days, including in other parts of the country, in the future.
