Oxbridge hitches a ride…

… on OUr bandwagon. Well I’m allowed to be a little smug about the fact we launched OU iTunesU podcasts before Oxford and Cambridge who launch today. But then they are perfectly entitled to feel smug about their content. They do have some fantastic names, including Joseph Stiglitz, former chief economist of the World Bank, foreign secretary, David Miliband and Craig Venter on genomics. I think the recordings of the choir might be a big hit, especially as we head towards Christmas. Battle of the university choirs for an Xmas No 1 in the iTunesU download charts anyone?
It’ll be interesting to see how much traffic they get and whether the OU traffic peaks, especially UK based traffic. Most iTunesU traffic is from the US where iTunesU has been live for a few years. We launched our iTunesU channel in June 2008 and expect to reach the 1 million mark in downloads this week. iTunesU editors have highlighted OU content, driving this traffic, so it’ll be interesting to see how we fare as more universities join in.
For non-iTunes users we are working on delivering the podcasts through the OU website.
