I’ve arrived
August 24th, 2006 Posted by: l.dewis
Officially I arrived on 14.08.06 but it’s taken me a week to get the blog up and running. My brief is to capture my own experience of finding out about OpenLearn as part of the OU’s overall involvement in e-learning. I hope that eventually I will know everything about this project and the issues effecting us and the rest of the open content community and Open Air will become a conduit for this font of knowledge. But until that happy day, I will ramble a little.
My first task was to think up a name for the blog. Which is partly been the reason for the delay in it’s publication, I must admit. Oh Pen? Open All Hours? Open Door? Open Access? Well, one thing was certain – it had to have Open in the title. And the marvellous Dr. David Wiley had already taken my first idea Open Up. Which would have been ideal, because I very much see that as my role. To open up OpenLearn communication both inside and outside the Open University. (What was I was taught about never using the same word more than once in a sentence? Impossible in this project!).
So I settled on Open Air – I’ve just come from the BBC where we go to ‘air’, I intend to be airing my views and those of others, and personally I quite like the outdoors. So then the only question that remained was should there be a space between Open and Air, because it seems the en vogue thing to StringWordsTogether. Not great if you have dyslexia.
P.S. If you want to start your own blog feel free to use any of my previously mentioned title ideas. They are available under the Creative Commons Licence and represent at least 1 week of my workload
