openAIED Special Interest Group: February meeting

openTEL is pleased to announce that next week’s openAIED Special Interest Group will include presentation by Dr Mutlu Cukurova, UCL

The support and evaluation of students’ collaboration skills with AI and multimodal data

Dr Mutlu Cukurova

Abstract: In his talk, Dr Cukurova will present his recent research on the support and evaluation of students’ collaboration skills with AI and multimodal data. His research broadly addresses the pressing social-educational challenge of preparing people for the workplace of the future that will require a great deal more than the routine cognitive skills currently prized by many education systems. Dr Cukurova will argue that i) Educational Technologies with Multimodal Data has a great potential for the interpretation and support of complex social and emotional skills such as collaboration, ii) AI techniques can enable instructors and learners to unlock the black box of a complex skill development process. His talk will aim to substantiate these points with examples of his current research projects.

Bio: Dr Mutlu Cukurova is a Lecturer in Digital Technologies in Education at UCL Knowledge Lab, University College London. His background is in the learning sciences and he is particularly interested in investigating the potential of Educational Technologies to continuously support and evaluate students’ skill development.
