I left the OU to take up a post as Senior Lecturer in Business Information Technology in the School of Computing and Creative Technologies at Leeds Metropolitan University on 16 April 2012. You can contact me at Leeds Met by emailing I.L.Martin@leedsmet.ac.uk.

On the 19 April 2012 I gave a talk based on my PhD thesis, ‘Centring the Computer in the Business of Banking: Barclays Bank and Technological Change, 1954-1974′, with David Parsons at the Science Museum in London. More details including abstract here.

My personal research interests include the history and sociology of technology. I am particularly interested in spatial and temporal perspectives on computing work.

Forthcoming publications include:

Martin, I. (2012) ‘Structuring information work: Ferranti and Martins Bank, 1952-1968′, Information and Culture 47(3). ISSN 2164-8034.

Martin, I. (2012) ‘Too far ahead of its time: Barclays, Burroughs and real-time banking’, IEEE Annals of the History of Computing 34(2). ISSN 1051-6180.

I also had a first book review published in last September’s Public Understanding of Science. It’s a review of Computer by Paul Atkinson.

See my Open Research Online (ORO) entry for a more complete list of my recent publications.
