My main research interests include the nature of information, the history of systems thinking and the evolution of information systems.

Major recent projects include:

  • Nature of Information – a research project on the way that information is conceptualised by various disciplines (in collaboration with David Chapman). We have recently published an edited book, Perspectives on Information, and are currently organising an international workshop, The Difference that Makes a Difference 2011 (7-9 Sept, Milton Keynes).
  • Systems Thinkers – a book discussing the lives and works of 30 major contributors to the field of systems thinking (in collaboration with Karen Shipp).
  • Online communication and collaboration – a course reader and block discussing current technologies such as Twitter and Web 2.0, as part of a major new course in ICT.

I am currently supervising one full-time PhD student (Badruddozza Mia), and two part-time students (David Leonard and Victoria Holt).

My recent publications have been deposited with Open Research Online. See also my more general personal page.
