Message from the Dean

As Dean of The Open University’s Faculty of Business and Law I have the privilege of leading the Business School and Law School. Both are recognised for the quality of their programmes and teaching which are supported by cutting edge management and legal research.

 

Student satisfaction is a high priority. We are determined to deliver the best outcomes for the 30,000 students currently studying with us and help them to realise their potential and achieve their career aspirations. We know that our practice-based learning approach, flexibility of study and wide range of innovative learning technologies and tools all contribute to a positive student experience. We also understand the need to keep our modules and qualifications fresh and relevant. We regularly review and update our materials and incorporate new ways of delivery. 

 

In the year ahead I want to build on our reputation as a leading provider of business and law programmes. The areas I am especially interested in developing further include: our international presence; our corporate connections and professional programmes and our alumni network.

 

Our multi-national student body in 99 countries around the world gives us a strong worldwide presence. In line with our vision to build a worldwide learning community we will be working to grow our international partnerships and develop our links with international business and alumni. This will help us reach an even wider community and ensure our curriculum continues to have global relevance.

 

We wish to further strengthen our corporate connections and deepen our links with business. Over the coming year we are planning more direct engagement with business. We will also be developing our portfolio of professional programmes to deliver value to business and students.

 

We benefit enormously from our loyal and enthusiastic alumni who are an important part of our community. Engaging more with them in areas such as professional development, on-going career progression and supporting their networks will be a key focus for 2013.
