Custom research

The Open University Business School works with public and private sector organisations to deliver custom enterprise research projects through:

An enterprise ethos

Ultimately, research should be transformational. It is the driver of business development, economic regeneration and improvements in the quality of life; but only if it is properly directed and made widely available. For this reason, the Open University Business School is committed to:

  • intellectual rigour in research practice
  • creative dissemination of research outputs
  • robust utilisation and exploitation of intellectual capital
  • collaborative activity that enhances the research experience
  • maximising entrepreneurial opportunities

We productively engage in national, regional and international partnerships to the advantage of industry, commerce and the public sector.

Wide dissemination

Research at the Open University Business School has unlimited horizons. External partners use research outputs to communicate and enhance their standing with practitioner and educational audiences. The School itself embraces new and inventive technologies to disseminate and share our research findings.

  • Peer-reviewed publications arising from collaborative research are registered on the Open University’s open access institutional repository – Open Research Online (ORO). This provides public access to research outputs via common search engines including Google, by using the OAI (Open Archives Initiative) Protocol for Metadata Harvesting.
  • Our research feeds directly into the materials and delivery of our management education courses. This ensures that everything we teach is informed by the latest management thinking and facilitated by the most appropriate new technologies.
  • Over 12 million people have visited OpenLearn, our free learning resources website, since its launch.
  • The Open University has become one of the first providers of educational content to reach 40 million downloads in iTunes U, averaging 275,000 downloads a week.

Confidentiality

All research contracts at The Open University are implemented in accordance with the Code of Practice for the assurance of academic quality and standards in Higher Education. Confidentiality of data and intellectual property are discussed as part of any potential collaboration agreement.
