Dev K (Roshan) is a Lecturer in Strategic Management. He joined The Open University Business School in 2002 after completing a PhD at the University of Strathclyde.
His teaching interests centre on a core theme of international strategy process and practice. He is currently involved in Strategy (B820), Business organisations and their environments (B201) and Fundamentals of senior management (B713).
His main research interests focus on globalisation and international strategy process in service industries. His PhD examined the international strategy process in professional service industries, with case studies conducted in the UK advertising industry. In an extension of this project, he is looking at hypotheses/propositions developed in other professional service sectors. Other interests are in the international business area. One project focuses on analysing international market selection decisions and their impact on firm performance in the UK, and a second will examine the international strategy process and practice of transnationals from emerging economies (including Sub-Saharan Africa).
He is a member of the Academy of International Business (AIB, UK) and the European International Business Academy (EIBA).
My original interests in international strategy/international entrepreneurship are linked to processual issues on managing across borders in SMEs and multinational subsidiaries in service/professional services contexts. This part of my research is mostly based on my PhD work, looking specifically at the nature of international strategy process in the UK advertising industry and across a broad range of firms. Subsequent efforts to build on this research interest have extended to two international projects and collaborations to date. The first project (conducted with a partner in Spain (Dr. Oscar Martin of University of Navarro) aims to investigate ‘the strategic behaviour, international market selection strategy and export performance of UK firms’. The second project for which funding has been received by the Mauritius Research Council (the equivalent of ESRC in Mauritius) and OU International Development Centre aims to explore ‘strategy processes practices and learning in changing African economies’ (partner, Dr R.V. Sannassee, University of Mauritius). The common theme of interest across these projects relates to understanding the nature and issues underpinning international strategy process, practice and learning in diverse contexts.
