Siv is Senior Lecturer of Management. She joined The Open University Business School in 2002 having previoulsy spent 10 years researching and teaching on the International and Senior Executive MBA programme at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland.
Siv is a leading international researcher known for her cutting edge, award winning research in the field of collaboration. She is regularly called upon to share her expertise with policy makers, practitioners and academics at seminars and conferences through the world. Since 1992, Siv's research has focused on three interconnected strands concerning the development of i) Practice oriented theory about the management of collaboration (partnerships and alliances), ii) Conceptualizations about bridging theory and practice (which is about the accessibility and usability of theory for practitioners) and iii) Knowledge about methodology for practice oriented research and theory development. During the course of her research, she has worked as a facilitator, consultant, advisor and trainer with policy makers and managers involved in many collaborative situations across the public, private and not-for profit sectors. Her book; Managing to Collaborate, co-authored with Chris Huxham pulls together 15 years of research into the management of collaboration.
Dr Vangen’s teaching interests span general and strategic management with a specific focus on practice based teaching using engaged methods such as action learning. She has specific expertise in the management of inter-organisational collaboration. She has taught extensively at undergraduate and post graduate levels, on the international and senior executive MBAs at Strathclyde University and the Open University and as invited guest lecturer on other European MBAs and EDPs. She is currently chair of B325: Managing Across Organisational and Cultural Boundaries, co-author of B830 Making a Difference and co-author on the new B839: Making a Difference: Your management initiative currently under production.
Dr. Vangen’s research has focused programmatically on collaboration since 1992.
