Matthew completed his Psychology BSc at the University of Leicester, where he investigated the effect of piercings on facial recognition for his dissertation. This project first piqued his interest in conducting research and led to him applying for a postgraduate degree. Having a keen interest in business and how psychology can influence companies, he went on to complete a Master of Science in Organisational Psychology at Manchester Business School; during which he completed his postgraduate dissertation on the relationship between personality and financial decision making.
Matthew's research at The Open University follows on from his interest in financial behaviour and furthering understanding of financial decision making and capability.
This study intends to investigate the role of emotion regulation in financial capability; recent research has highlighted the importance of effective emotion regulation in financial traders. I intend to extend the current research and investigate how emotion regulation may affect the general population’s financial capability and I am also considering the potential for investigating the role of emotion regulation in impulsive buying behaviour.
